What was Obama supposed to do about the Oil?
It’s amazing that Obama has finally fallen below 50% approval rating due to the Oil well. There are people who would compare the Gulf Oil Spill to Hurricane Katrina for Bush. I can not see the comparison at all. Bush had placed (and the congress/senate approved of) a guy in charge of FEMA who had no experience in disaster recovery. He also ignored reports that New Orleans levees were in need of an upgrade. In the meantime it was Cheney’s secret energy meetings (whose records are still classified) that lead to the decision that a final failsafe was too expensive. Bush also ignored Katrina for weeks before finally reacting. Obama has been talking about and working on the Gulf Oil problem since close to day one. He also not only got BP to apologize for their failing, but BP has now given 20 billion towards a fund to help clean up.
So what more were people expecting from Obama that they don’t like how he’s handled it expected him to do? At this point they must have been thinking that he could have swam down to the Well, used his heat vision to shut down the well himself. Do people somehow imagine that Bush would have cleaned this up any earlier? That someone who spent a near lifetime working in the oil industry would suddenly force BP to pay for their mistake? I realize that everything has taken longer then he estimated, but it’s not as though the American Armed Forces have deep sea drillers who could have instantly closed the well. At some point you have to have some faith that these companies have prepared for the worst possible situation (also of not is that not only did they not have a plan, but they lied about the estimates of oil pouring out of the well).
I really wish I could know what more people wanted Obama to do? Stop the tides by shooting down the moon? I’m not just blindly defending Obama. It just really perplexes me that people would decide the Oil Spill was his fault and was the straw that broke the Camels back. I’m not sure how many people would read this that wouldn’t be considered leftists. But if you could explain to me what Obama did that was so wrong/bad feel free to comment below. I promise I almost never block a comment unless it’s spam.
