D&D Heroscape

I recently got one of the Heroscape D&D Master Sets and decided to give it a try. Since it took me a long while to actually get the board setup, I decided to play the basic version instead of the full game. Well with the basic version it was over a lot quicker then I anticipated. So over the weekend I’m going to give the master game more of a try and then give my thoughts on it. Since I took some pics, I figured I might as well use them.

The Mighty Heroes, a Human Fighter, a Dwarf Fighter, an Elf Wizard and a Female Cleric, have come upon an ambush. The fearless fighter decides that he will charge forward and save the day!

The Fighter makes his move, and decides on a balls to the wall flat out charge.

The dragon and troll, who appear to be making love and largely uninterested in the heroes decide to send forward the Drows!

Never one to be upstaged by a puny sober human, the Dwarf decides the best course of action is to go flying into the fight axes blazing!

While the Troll and Dragon continue their loving embrace, the Drows decide that surrounding the Dwarf might be the best course of action.

In a move of brilliant strategy, the Drows stab the Dwarf multiple times. This tends to kill him as multiple stab wounds and poison will kill just about everything.

Following the death of the Dwarf, the Elven Wizard decides with the drunken bastard gone now’s his time for glory. In actually thinking ahead he only moves close enough to be in range with his fireball spell, but away from the Drows sharp daggers.

Unfortunately the fireball goes wild and has no effect on the Drow. Said Drow suddenly realizes that there’s an Elf Wizard not far from him and pretty defenseless and goes after him.

Stabby Stab, Poison Poison, Elf Wizard Dead. Dragon and Troll still in love.

The Cleric finally decides to be half an inch of usefulness and throws a spell in the general direction of the lone Drow. Unfortunately this misses because Clerics suck. The Drows decide to gangrape the fighter and send the lone Drow after the Cleric, cause Clerics suck.

Stab and Down Goes Cleric

The remaining two Drows decide to spend the next five minutes stabbing the Fighter over and over again. Even when he’s dead they stab him a few more times because they are funny like that.

And so the Heroes all died horrible horrible deaths to some Drows with Poisoned Daggers. Meanwhile a Dragon and Troll cuddled deep in the cave. There was something else deep in another cave, but lets not talk about regenerative powers. For a first time playing any Heroscape, at least it was funny.

If not for the long as hell setup time, this is a really good game. But dam are those tiles annoying to put together. With all the possibility of Modular boards, you think they might have switched. I also see why all those hardcore guys make huge maps. If your going to take the time to setup a map, might as well make it something worth remembering.
