Whats wrong with the Jets?
Lets make it simple. Theres been far too many coaches of the Jets since I’ve become a Jets fan. Lets just go over everyone thats been a coach of them since I started watching.
Bruce Coslet
Pete Carroll (1 Season)
Rich Kotite (2 Seasons)
Bill Belichek (A Week)
Bill Parcells
Bill Belichek (A Day)
Al Groh (1 Season)
Herm Edwards
Eric Mangini
Meanwhile at the same time the Giants have only had 3 coaches and none of them have had a single season.
Dan Reeves
Jim Fassel
Tom Coughlin
Also during this time the Giants have gone to two Super Bowls winning one. Meanwhile the Jets have only gotten to the Confrence championship once and were routed by Elway on his way to his second Super Bowl. The fired Jets coaches have not had any particullar successes in the NFL, as it should be pointed out that Bellicheck was never fired. Coslet went on to be a bookmark in how bad the Bengals are, Carroll started the Pats on a downward slide till Belichek took them over, Kotite is out of Football, Parcells hasn’t been back to the Confrence championship, Al Groh went on to college coaching, Herm has destroyed the Chiefs and Mangini will continue to fail with the Browns.
I never did like Mangini. My feeling was that Herm Edwards final season was doomed due to Penningtons Injury. Anyone could have come back and coached them to the playoffs that year. It should be even more obvious how poor Mangini’s coaching is in that he never seemed to trust or like Pennington. He was always trying to get him out. He finally succeeded and Pennington proceeded to have a spectacular season for Miami of all teams. Not only that, but in shoving Chad out the door they ALLOWED Chad to go to Miami of all places.
Its rather sad that both Shannahan and Cowher will not be taking over the Jets. It seems to be the problem is that Tannenbuam will not hand over any of the GM duties he is currently doing. I was obviously in fear that the Jets might hire Calhoun, but hopefully that ship has left port already. There was also Schotty Jr, Rex Ryan and Spangulo fighting for the job. Truthfully between those three I’d go for Ryan, just because I’m a huge fan of Buddy Ryan. Spangulo gets overrated considering the level of talent that is on the Giants Defense. Schotty Jr would be the last guy I wanted, cause I never liked his dad. And I’m shocked he’s even still on staff, you think if anyone deserves the blame for what happened it would have been the offense. Supposedly if the Jets did fire him, other teams would want him as Head Coach which shocks me. Not only due to the failures of the Jets offense, but the problems Old Marty had getting wins in the playoffs.
In the end, the Jets will find a way to screw this up most likely. Its depressing being a Jets fan. Theres never been those great Franchise Players on the Roster. Its always been guys towards the end with an empty tank, except for Curtis Martin. Right now it looks like the Jets will be heading into the season without a solid QB, and might have more questions then answers if Brett does returns. Kellen Clemmens is obviously not the answer from anyone thats already watched him. Brett Ratcliff has put up impressive numbers when he played in the preseason this year. The main reason I’d want the Jets to get Rex Ryan is because I’d rather have an impressive defense and shitty offense. That way the Jets wouldn’t have to rely on a Clemmens or a Farve.
Of course my biggest hope is that they hire the recently released Jon Gruden. A lot of people are scratching their heads at his firing, and the Jets should move in ASAP and sign him. Between having a Super Bowl win in Tampa and his lack of Quality QBs yet keeping the team afloat should be more then enough of a reason for the Jets to get him. As many people have pointed out, the Bucs fired Gruden, and unless they get Cowher or Shannahan they are definitely downgrading in the coaching position.
I have my fingers crossed for the Jets, but its always the worst possible choice except for when they got Parcells.
