Trent Dilfer is wrong

I’ve been able to watch ESPN lately, and it really is annoying. It seems as though everyone and anyone thats ever played for the NFL gets to be an analyst.  I was flipping through and I saw Jesse Freakin Palmer giving his view. Jesse Palmer was never even a starter in the NFL. I’ve also seen Shaun King, who was basically a one year wonder. But at least Shaun King managed to take the QB job in TB away from Dilfer.

This all started because I happened to catch Dilfer talking about how Vick will never again be able to cut it again in the NFL. Tampa Bay could not wait to get rid of him, and people were surprised to see him sign with anyone in the NFL when he signed with Baltimore. He was also the 2nd String QB when he got to Baltimore, behind the even worse Tony Banks. He also has the fame of being one of the few Super Bowl winning QBs to have the team not bring him back the following year (excusing teams whose QB retired eg:Elway)

So why is Dilfer wrong? All you have to do is compare QB ratings between Vick and Dilfer and you can see pretty quickly. In Dilfer’s Five years starting with the Bucs (who unlike the Falcons had a great D) he managed in order a 60, 64, 82, 74 and a 76 QB Rating and in his whole career he managed 853 rushing yards. In every season but his first Vick managed in order 81, 69, 78, 73 and a 76  QB Rating along with 3,859 rushing yards. And to give a break to Vick the 69 was during his injury shortened season that the Falcons flat out collapsed.

With easily a worse team Vick managed (and his arm is supposed to be his weakness) to beat or match Dilfer’s numbers. But Dilfer probably doesn’t look at such stats because he doesn’t have to. He got hired at ESPN just cause he used to be a shitty QB.

To somehow believe that 19 month of being away from the game and being in prison is going to hurt him is a bit nuts. Sure, he might be rusty, but have you ever seen someone come out of prison and be in worse shape then they went in? He is going to be a psychical specimen. He’s not a pocket passer, but if you let him do what he can do, he can make magic happen.

Theres nothing I believe more then that Vick was railroaded. Idiots out there care more about pets then they do human beings. Athletes have killed people and worse, how many chances did Lawrence Phillips get? Somehow if you do stuff to dogs its ten times worse? When was the last time a star athelete was in jail during his prime? Muhhamed Ali? Once Vick gets back on the field, he’ll light it up and no one will care about the Dogs anymore.

And if ESPN doesn’t want to be a joke, its got to stop bringing in brain dead moron athletes to be analysts.  Its not just athletes though. Steve Phillips and Mike Milbury are examples of two GMs (and one being a coach too) who were complete failures in their time at their positions yet both are analysts. Anyone who knows the history of Phillips or Milbury wouldn’t take anything they say as analysts seriously.
