Twitter Hastags are fun

By , March 9, 2011 4:58 am

I’ve come to embrace and love Twitter, especially hash tags. I wasn’t using them for the longest time since I didn’t see the point. But now that I get it (and get more hits when I tag my twitter posts) it’s great. Of course it leaves me open for attacks from random people who don’t like when I bash their sports team (cough Pittsburgh cough) or don’t enjoy my politics. The thing I don’t get is I don’t go looking up stuff I don’t care about. Apparently though some people will look up hashes of things they hate just so they can argue with people, and of course I fall into the trap:

And to make things a little less confusing (ignore my message to LighthouseHockey) here’s my replies.

I probably did that in the laziest and most confusing way possible, but oh well.

To make matters even more fun, this guy joined in retweeting something.

Now that looks like someone who should be trusted with a gun… I’m surprised he has a working computer. It’s amazing how all these conservatives aren’t Republicans, they are Libertarians. Yet they all spout the same BS from Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. Most of them don’t even have an understanding of what a Libertarian is. Ironically he makes my point in using the #tcot hashtag in his profile. It’s for Top Conservatives on Twitter. Visiting the website for it, of course the list includes such libertarian greats as Karl Rove, Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin, etc…

Remember, arguing on the internet means no one wins!

Of Presidents and Death Threats

By , January 28, 2011 3:48 pm

So with the whole Giffords shooting, I have seen a lot of people come out from the right and claim that the left makes just as violent a level of threats. Most of these are from protests (and really, do we have to start showing pictures of what the Tea Party protests look like in comparison?) along with a poorly edited quote from Kerry back in 2004. I was thinking about it, and really, if your on the left you most likely believe that Bush Jr is guilty of war crimes. His home state of Texas is also one of the most infamous when it comes to executions, and during his time as Governor even the mentally ill faced the possibility of the death penalty.

If you believe that Bush is guilty of war crimes (an excellent argument made in this book by Vincent Burgliosi) then you view him as responsible for the deaths of over 2000 American soldiers. This isn’t even considering the Iraqi civilian death count. As governor Bush showed no compassion for anyone on death row and wouldn’t show it for someone who had a hand in 2000 American deaths. While some people on the left might be a tad nuts and actually want to kill Bush, I think most people would want him to face a fair trial. All but the most clueless of Americans have to know that Bush lied to start a war with Iraq, claiming Iraq was a threat and a sponsor of Al Queda (along with the nudge nudge wink wink they sponsored 9/11).

When people talk about killing Obama (or shooting representatives) you have to question what exactly was done to them?  You can’t even make the argument that Obama somehow stole the election. They want to kill him because he’s not an American Citizen? (btw Snopes even says he’s an American) They want to kill him because he gave them health care? I mean it’s a flat out ridiculous scenario. Let’s not forget that Giffords made Palin’s crosshair map because she had voted for health care.

It’s unfathomable that people are actually upset over getting government health care. In 2000, the last time the World Health Organization did global rankings (and at a time when the US economy was strong) the United States ranked 37th. We were behind Costa Rica and in front of Slovenia. Those horrible socialists in Cuba were 39th. So even in the best possible situation, the American health care system was ranking around 2nd and 3rd world Countries. For what should be a Superpower, being unable to take care of your own citizens is an embarrassment. Especially when you consider how much Cuba is hurt by the trade embargo.

Of course you could always have the delusional thought that Obama is a Muslim Nazi Socialist who will destroy the country by all means necessary. If you believe so, I’m shocked you’ve gotten this far in this post. But to be fair, if you had an understanding of history at all you’d realize that it’s impossible to be a Nazi and a Socialist. Now you could make the argument that the Nazi party was “National Socialist” but the reality is that the Socialist was there in name only. While Hitler told the workers he was for them, he would tell the capitalists that it was a lie to get the vote of the people.  Also as I’ve mentioned in the past, the Communists and Socialists were some of the first people the Nazis rounded up when they took power.

What is Terrorism?

By , January 24, 2010 2:40 am

I just figured some people would get a laugh out of this. I recently went on a tear and bought two Voltairine de Cleyre books. So I’m currently working on the Reader which contains all her major essays, minor essays, speeches and even poetry. So after the first few days I flip the book over and see a website for the press company. I decide to check it out, no biggie. Well it comes up blocked at work. So our work filters have a tag at the end to say why its blocked. Well, guess what, the press that printed my book is catgeorized as “Terror” Funny enough, theres a UK Site for the press as well which wasn’t blocked. The real question though, is how many libaries have this site blocked because of Filters? Who decides that this little Communitive Independent Press is a Terrorist organaztion?

So a few days later, I had told my mom about one of her Essays which was really good. Actually here’s a link to it since its a good read Free Thought Interestingly Enough that was the second version of it I had to find. Once again I was scanning through online archives at work and the first one came up blocked as Terror It just makes me scratch my head.

But hey, to top it off and make a complete circle, there’s such a thing as “Domestic Terrorists” Its actually a new label since 9/11. Currently there’s an elderly black women living in Cuba who is one of the most wanted Domestic Terrorists. Assata Shakur, who is wanted in the murder of a state trooper, escaped from prison in Jersey and got political asylum in Cuba. Now of course she’s been convicted, but from every legit expert whose worked on the case says that not only was she wounded early in the firefight, but it was impossible for her to have fired the gun with the wound she had and it would have been even tougher for her to have made the shot at the angle the cop got hit. But none of that matters, because she is now worth One Million Dollars. That’s right, a 120 pound 60 year old black woman is a Terrorist worth a million dollars. Not only that, but its not as though she’s been senselessly killing people for the last twenty years. She’s been relatively quiet and secluded as most bios about her drop off the map after she reaches Cuba.

But not only that, a good amount of Black Panthers who were previously jailed for a multitude of reasons find themselves being tagged as Domestic Terrorists and being held without reason, bail, or trial. Given that most of them were convicted on COINTELPRO bullshit its really a shame.
