There’s 81 Communists in the House

By , April 12, 2012 12:42 am

Well that comes as shocking news for me, the democrats are finally fighting back? The sad thing is that saying something this ridiculous normally would have cost you your seat. No one would have ever taken this seriously, he would have been laughed out. But now, it’s believed as much as if he would have said that Barack Obama is secretly importing Muslims over the border in order to make the USA an Islamic state.

Stupidity and ignorance are gaining steam like ever before. If you ever say something that the right doesn’t agree with, your automatically considered brainwashed by the “Liberal Media”. The same “Liberal Media” which is almost completely in the pocket of our corporate overlords. Look, if anyone is waging class warfare, it’s the rich. The amazing thing about it is that as more services get cut and a lot of those cuts come from Education, the larger part of the population which becomes blissfully ignorant.

The answers to all their problems will always be the simple ones. It’s the illegal immigrants that take their job. It’s evil progressive programs that lead to them being taxed. Everyone hates America because of it’s freedom. Minorities are ruining the country. It’s the Second Age of the Know Nothings, but even more abrasive and nowhere near ashamed of their stance.

Hopefully in time things will change, and people will start moving forward again. They will look back in embarrassment as the Neo-Cons try to turn back a century of forward thinking. Let’s go back to the time before the scopes monkey trial. Let’s get rid of everything that is in the slightest bit socialist slanted. Good bye Child Labor Laws, 40 hour work weeks,  unemployment benefits.

We are talking about stuff that we gained through tough Union fighting during the great depression. Republicans have endlessly campaigned to destroy the New Deal. For what gain? Everytime another section of the new deal is destroyed, it is everyone at the bottom of the pyramid that is hurt. The amazing thing is that the people on the bottom don’t even realize they are the ones getting screwed.

I still can’t believe that this guy is going to get a bunch of press, but no one is going to bring up that he is obviously insane and should be tossed out on his ass. Yes I realize that this post in uninspired.

Who is Duncan D. Hunter?

By , May 18, 2011 5:14 pm

So I was reading a story about how Duncan Hunter was Outraged that a US Navy Ship was to be named after Cesar Chavez. Now while you can make the argument that Chavez’s non-violence principals means it doesn’t make much sense to name a military vessel after him, Representative Hunter has an interesting track record with minorities. Such as:

  • Advocating Deportation of United States Citizens who are Children of Illegal Immigrants
  • Supports revoking Birthright Citizenship
  • Supports the Arizona Immigration laws
  • Was against repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell

Wonderful guy? And that’s just skimming the top.

  • He’s also in support of HR 3 and is one of the Co-Sponsors
  • He voted against HR 1913 which looked to extend hate crime laws
  • Voted Against HR 3470 which looked to study Infant Mortality Rates
  • He Did Not Vote in the First Responders Bill
  • Voted Against HR 5510 which was going to help homeowners in foreclosure
  • Voted Against HR 5851 which offered protection to Oil Rig Whistleblowers
  • Voted For Continuing the PATRIOT Act
  • Voted Yes to Prohibit Federal Funds to go to Planned Parenthood
  • Voted Against HR 5987 which was going to give seniors a one time payment of 250 bucks if they did not get a cost of living increase.
  • Voted to Prohibit funding to NPR this year
  • Voted to Disapprove the FCC’s Net Neutrality Ruling
  • Voted against Trade In Vouchers for Fuel Efficient Cars
  • Has Voted against every Welfare and Women related bill he has seen.

I must say, he is truly a compassionate conservative. Now I’m curious, who gives him donations for campaigns? And unsurprisingly his biggest campaign contributions are from the Defense Industry. What does he do for the Defense Industry? Just vote against anything that might actually shorten the war.

I really can’t believe someone like this can be elected anywhere. Of course it helps when your dad served 14 terms and was just as much as a maniac. Some of Duncan Hunter the Elder’s wonderful stances:

  • The Parent Empowerment Act: It basically would have allowed parents to sue anyone who published something obscene/pornographic which a minor could easily access (the usual WHO WILL THINK OF THE CHILDREN???)
  • Continually Forced Through Funding of the DP-2, even when it obviously was not working.
  • Once Said “Hate crimes on sexual orientation threaten equal protection” and then Voted No on prohibiting job discrimination based on sexual orientation 2 months later.
  • Was Rated 7% by the ACLU in 2002, 28% by the NAACP in 2006 and in 2005 issued a commemorative stamp for Rosa Parks
  • Voted against giving protection to Whistleblowers from employers.
  • Said “Gitmo prisoners are comfortable and well-fed; never tortured” in 2008
  • Voted against raising the Minimum Wage to 7.25
  • Voted Yes on retroactive immunity for telecoms’ warrantless surveillance
  • Voted No on establishing “network neutrality”
  • Voted YES on allowing telephone monopolies to offer Internet access.
  • Voted N on investigating Bush impeachment for lying about Iraq.

Well it appears the nut doesn’t fall too far from the tree. It’s depressing that guys like this almost set up their own little kingdoms and no matter how insane they same they last forever and then hand off their seat to their kids. These little serfdoms need to be eliminated.

Blah Blah Blah

By , April 20, 2011 9:36 pm

From The NY Daily News On The Mets loss:

Blah blah blah blah rain blah blah blah Niese blah blah Astros blah blah Mets got spanked. Blah blah, 6-1. We really don’t know what else to tell you about this one. But we will try:

It sort of begs the question, why would any fan grab a copy of the Daily News to find news stories of any local team. That feeling goes towards the Post and the Times too. Obviously it’s sort of a running gag how bad the Mets are, but who would rather follow a free blog online that updates multiple times a day over an out of date story or at most two? I think Newspapers with as much as they struggle to turn a profit recently, cutting the sports section out might be a good move.
Even more so, it seems like beat writers for teams are either new to the job or are just trying to make a name for themselves. In the long run it’s a nice job, but if they can attract a lot of attention then they can move on to an ESPN or to their personal blog. It seems like no one just wants to be a beat writer anymore, they want to be a personality. Truthfully it’s a bit sad that this day and age that sports writing seems to be going downhill. It especially seems to be going downhill if you’ve ever googled something sports related and went to a Bleacher Report story. There’s some good guys over there, but they seem to be few and far apart.
I’m not even saying I’m any good. But it’s just tiring that everyone is trying to be a personality. Is it really that hard to report on something without trying to be a character? It comes off as trying too hard to be funny. Haha, let’s start this off with Blah Blah Blah two weeks into the season. It’s like the kid in class yelling and shouting look at me to the teacher, with no idea what the right answer is. Even when the Islanders were in the midst of a 20 game winless streak, I don’t think anyone started off a story about their previous game blah blah blah.
Maybe it’s just me, maybe I’m wrong. I haven’t followed baseball in a long time. It’s possible that this isn’t somewhat ridiculous. I just always held the NY Daily News in high regard, when I used to read both the News and the Post it was amazing the angles that the Post would take on stories. One of my favorites was the time leading up to the release of Fahrenheit 9/11 in which the Post proclaimed Moore to be Goebbels nearly every day. I don’t know if the Post ever did apologize to Moore, considering how badly they were slandering him. Especially since it has come out long ago that Bush lied about the WMDs. But hey, it’s Rupert Murdoch’s empire anyway.

For Islanders, There is No Magic Bullet

By , November 16, 2010 7:51 pm

(This was written for Lighthouse Hockey but got pushed back a bit, and with recent news is no longer topical/useful. So it’s posted here for prosperity.)

With the book closed on the first month of the new season, this year’s Islander team finds itself in the nearly same position as last year. Floating around .500 (though this losing streak is pushing .500 further away), some nights they look like David the Giant Slayer, and other nights they look like the Brave Tailor before he got stepped on. No one can come up with a single answer for what might be ailing the team. It seems every aspect, from Goaltending to Fowards to Defenseman, is getting argued over and picked over with a fine comb.

Historically, when you’re a bad or struggling team, making a big trade usually doesn’t fix anything. For those that follow football, the whole Randy Moss episode this last week is a shining example. When something’s not working right, throwing someone new into the mix rarely improves things. Just look to the Islanders’ past and the acquisitions of Trevor Linden, Felix Potvin, Ron Hextall, Kirk Muller and Ryan Smyth: All short-term fixes which hurt us in the long run.

As the Islanders roster stands today, there’s not going to be much movement. The roster is made of players tied to Garth. Since the Smyth trade Snow has really been quiet on that front. The only time he’s traded NHL’ers was in order to stockpile picks. To suddenly believe that he is going to wake up one day this week, clap his hands, call another GM and make a trade that dramatically changes the team is unrealistic. It goes against everything he has been doing the last two years.

It’s not just trades though. The answer to the Isles woes is not going to be found at Bridgeport either. Yes, Matt Martin is a likable guy, especially when he’s throwing his body around in complete disregard for tomorrow. But asking/expecting a 21 year old in his first NHL season to turn the boat around might be a tad unrealistic. The same could be said of asking most any of the youngsters to make a big splash in the NHL now.

As of right now there’s 35 players that are 20 and under who have played at least one game this season. That means there’s barely more then a player per team who is under 20. Even looking at players aged 21 to 23 there’s only 102 of them in the league. 48 23 year olds, 26 22 year olds and 27 21 year olds. That’s why borderline players seem to hang around the league so long. Teams would rather play a grizzled veteran then have a youngster skating with the sharks. It’s especially easy to point to the Islanders past to see what happens when young guys are thrown into the NHL.

If this is going to be a lost season because of the injuries, then let Rick DiPietro play it out. If your hoping for next season to possibly be a playoff year (as many of you voted) then the Isles need to figure out the future in net. If it’s not going to be DP, better to know that now. Let Micheal Grabner, Rob Schremp and PA Parenteau play to see if they are part of the solution. Let David Ullstrom, Travis Hamonic, Rhett Rakhshani and Calvin De Haan go through their growing pains outside of the NHL.

Be it through trades or callups, the Islanders aren’t going to be fixed overnight. Players will get better and stragglers on the development curve will be left behind, but the team isn’t going to change overnight. There’s no magic involved except for patience. In twenty years as a fan, this feels like the fourth or fifth time I’ve got to put my hopes in the GM that he is making the right moves for tomorrow. If we’ve gotten to this point with Garth, we have to believe in his vision that tomorrow will be brighter. Going by his track record there’s no reason to predict a big splashy trade or a sudden rush of youngsters being called up. In the end the Islanders will be better for that, and the future will be brighter.

Poor Islanders

By , January 22, 2009 1:25 am

So it just goes from bad to worse. MacDonald who was showing some talent for the Islanders is down for a while. They finally sign Dubie, and since he had played with KHL he had to go through waivers. Well guess what, since Pascal Leclaire is done for the season, the Bluejackets decided they needed a vetrean backup for Das Wunderkid Mason and grabbed Dubie off of waivers. Its a joke that the Islanders ever let him go. They claimed that he had showed up the previous season out of weight. Meanwhile if you compare his stats to DiPietro’s they almost had the same numbers for the season. There was no reason to let Dubie get away to begin with when you don’t have some solid rookie in the system and when your star starting goalie is coming off of back to back surgeries. Unfortunately I’m starting to get the feeling that Garth Snow might be an even worse GM then Milbury managed to be. At least Milbury had some experince. How many other teams decide that they are going to dump their backup goalie and decide to save money by moving him to the front office?

At least on the bright side, the Islanders supposedly have 15 years left on the Nassau lease, or they can’t get out of the lease till 2015, so they won’t be moving anytime soon. You really can’t blame the fans for not showing up when the starting goalie for the next month is going to be Yann Dennis. He went undrafted, and has over the years only played 6 NHL Games. How come a team like the Devils can lose Broduer and still be in it, but the Islanders lose DiPietro and suddenly they might have Dunham dress to be backup.

I believe it all comes down to this. After signing DiPietro to a 15 year contract, they didn’t want anyone to ever challenge DiP to become the starter. They let Dubie go because they were worried that he might push DiP. They haven’t drafted anyone early enough (you’d figure 4th round would be good for a backup at least) to make their way up through the ranks to become a backup. They had signed DiP, and that was it. Come hell or high water they weren’t going to sign ANYONE else to be their goalie.
