But thanks for the laughs. You really shouldn’t bother getting a blog post removed which has gotten almost no attention. I had to double check the stats, but it has a total of 251 views in a year, of which 190 of them were in December when your banner on Wikipedia was in rotation. But hey, what do I know about the internet. Well at least tonight is going to be an easy night for new material, as here’s the fun letter that was in my inbox tonight:
Message:
I’ve been working at the Wikimedia Foundation for 2 years as a
software developer. Last year, they recruited me (and several other
community members and employees) to appear on a fundraising banner so
they could stop barraging people with Jimmy. After they put me on a
banner, I was then exposed to the full measure of human hate. No less
than 3 parody Facebook profiles were created, and numerous blogs and
discussion boards decided that I was the best thing to make fun of for
a couple weeks. All because I was encouraging people to donate to a
non-profit website. Most of these profiles and posts eventually
dropped off of Google, but your blog post is still on the first page
of Google matches for my name, as it has been for almost a year now. I
wouldn’t care so much, accept that it basically says I’m a liar, right
there in the headline for any potential employer or future girlfriend
to read when they google my name. I appreciate that the Wikimedia
Foundation has strong critics and I think such criticism is useful.
However, you should know that your criticism isn’t hurting the
Foundation, it’s only hurting me personally. I don’t want you to
remove your blog post, but I was wondering if there’s any chance you
could remove my name from the headline. The headline is still just as
effective without it. Looking through your website, it looks like we
have a lot in common and I hope you’ll read my email as a request from
another human being and not just from a representative of the
Wikimedia Foundation, which just happens to be my current employer.
Regarding the Foundation, you may want to look at their current
Charity Navigator profile as they are now one of the top ranked
charities in the country on both the Financial score and the
Accountability & Transparency score. I know this probably won’t change
your opinion of the Foundation, but I wanted to mention it, as the
Charity Navigator scores were one of the main criticisms in your blog
post. Anyway, thanks for listening. Peace.
When you sleep with the devil, you gotta pay your dues. Wikipedia is still duping people into donating when they have enough money to be solvent for the next 5-10 years at least. Except of course that they keep adding more and more staffers who are taking a bigger and bigger chunk out of the operating salary. And for what?
Not exactly surprising. Of course Goodell is just going to tell himself that these are a handful of fans who are greatly mistaken. But the owners have done everything possibly wrong if they were trying to win the PR battle. The fact that the league decided to end the CBA early, that the owners won’t open the books, that most fans don’t want an 18 game schedule, etc … It’s not just a pocket of fans that happened to have been at the draft last night. You could put fans from just about anywhere across the nation and the reaction would have been the same. You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.
I wonder behind the scenes what’s going on. Owners have been forcing local and state governments to pay for their new stadiums. The lockout looks largely to be the fault of the Owners. Do the owners owe these communities games? Should the owners pay back some of these communities if there aren’t games? I really would love to see what would happen if for example the city of Philly sued the Eagles for not having games. That’s what the owners would deserve, a little payback for holding cities ransom over new stadiums.
It’s easy to make multi-millionaire sports athletes look bad. Especially when it was the NHLPA and MLBPA trying their best to not get a salary cap. But at just about every turn so far it seems the Owners are doing everything to be the villains here. It’s like that South Park episode in which Lars Ulrich complained that he had to get a regular tiger cage, and not a golden tiger cage.
This is a rant from a friend about Atkins, back when they were about to go out of business. I love it and decided to share it.
GEH. Don’t get me started on the Atkins diet.
I’m a health nut. I breakdown and analyze the carb/fat/protein components of food I eat mentally and keep track of basic vitamins. I exercise. I roughly calculate in my head how many calories I burn and how many I need to consume depending on if I’m in a muscle-building or weight-maintaining phase.
AND I SAY ATKINS IS STUPID, DAMNIT. O_O;;; Carbs are your friend! Fats important but considering American diet should be used in moderation compared to what’s out there! Burgers without buns being healthier?! GAH!
When Atkins came out, it made me want to cry. Pastas and grains and such are some of the best foods you can have if you’re an active person, and Atkins didn’t even discriminate good carbs like those from bad; ones like processed sugars. Weight loss doesn’t come from cutting carbs — it comes from eating slightly less of what calories you need to maintain your current body weight, combined with healthy exercise. It’s a good idea to limit fats and proteins are
good for muscle-building, but beyond that you’re pretty free to eat whatever you want. o_o;
Now let’s all sit down and pray this doesn’t just get replaced with another fad new disaster diet.
