Pens Champs in 2009

The Pens opened the 2000s with being on the verge of moving, an unhappy greatest player in the world (Jagr) and an arena falling apart. Yet today they are the Stanley Cup Champs. Its an amazing process when you go back and look at their first rounders since 2000
2000 #18 Brooks Opik
2001 #21 Colby Armstrong (Part of Hossa Trade)
2002 # 5 Ryan Whitney (Trade – Kunitz, Prospect)
2003 # 1 Marc Andre Fleury
2004 # 2 Evengi Malkin
2005 # 1 Sidney Crosby
2006 # 2 Jordan Staal

Somewhere in Pittsburgh there’s a scout that deserves a job as a GM. There are a lot of teams that have had that many high first rounders and got nothing from it. Teams would kill to have any one of the four first/second overall picks they had. Sometimes people claim the real genius are those that pick the gems in the rough at the end of the draft. I say having four straight years of 1 and 2 overall picks and managing to have them become the cornerstone of a Stanley Cup team within 3 years of the drafting of the last one is something else.

BTW: This was supposed to be done back when the Pens won, but my mouse broke so it got saved till today.
