I get some interesting emails. Might as well show the world my responses to them.

Hi Mark,

We would love to share with you an article that we just posted on our
own blog! “10 Reasons Satellite Radio Rocks”
would be an interesting story for your readers to check out and
discuss on your blog, so we hope you will consider sharing it!

Thanks so much for your time, and have a wonderful day!

So let’s start discussing Satellite radio! Join the fun in my comments! It was obvious whoever sent this just googled satellite radio and since that’s one of my tags and categories this blog came up. So here’s my reply.

Not sure how you came across my blog, but you could have at least took the time to read one of my posts about Satellite radio. The fact that your “10 Reasons Satellite Radio Rocks” doesn’t include Uncensored Howard Stern is just crazy. Not only that, but the continual mistreatment of Sirius customers is horrible. Why is there a “best of XM/Sirius” package when obviously they can cross broadcast as has been proven by their ability to cross broadcast the music stations. The move to bleed customers dry once the Merger was approved made them look like complete dicks.

Thank you very much, and I’m sure if you drive a lot or travel long distances, Satellite radio does rock. However for those who just want an alternative to the radio (ask me how well my Stilleto 2 works) are bound to be disappointed. I can’t find any reason to post your article, along with the fact that despite 140+ blog posts I only have a total of 29 comments, half of them mine, mean it won’t start a discussion anyway.

Siriusly Screwed Once More

By , July 12, 2010 3:42 pm

So remember when Sirius and XM merged. The consumer was supposed to be the winner. All sports on one satellite. XM could finally get Howard Stern. It was going to be glorious. Then Sirius XM announced that it was too tough to broadcast channels to both receivers. But if you bought the “Best Of” package (depending on which service you were on) for a few bucks more you could immediately get the most requested stations from the other service. While XM listeners could now hear Howard, NASCAR, NFL and Playboy Radio, Sirius listeners were offered Oprah, NHL, PGA and Opie and Anthony.

It’s now obvious that the Best Of XM package was struggling compared to the Best Of Sirius. In the last few weeks it was announced that there was a new channel, Fantasy Sports Radio. But are you looking for it on a Sirius receiver? Jokes on you, it’s now a part of the Best of XM package. That’s right, somehow despite it being 2 years since Sirius and XM merged and all the music stations cross broadcasting, Sirius XM decided to just broadcast Fantasy Sports Radio to XM listeners. Unless of course you already have the Best of XM or feel like paying extra for it.

It’s just a comedy of errors over at Sirius XM. Doomsday is coming for them soon though. They seem willing to go into the future without Howard Stern. They are going to learn just like CBS Radio did that they are underestimating the selling point of Howard. I for one keep buying my 12 month subscription in December, without Howard there’s no way I’m renewing and I’m going to guess that there’s a good 5 to 10 million people who only listen to Howard. The fireworks this winter when Howard doesn’t return will be fun to watch.

Still Siriusly Screwed

So now the dust has settled and Sirius has merged. Where has the average Sirius customer found themselves?

  1. The once free internet feed with a subscription is no longer. You must pay for the higher quality stream now. Of course many people point out that packaging advertised the free internet stream as a way to listen when you were out of Satellite range.
  2. That whole promise of getting Baseball and Hockey? Not so much.  Sirius claimed they couldn’t just add the channels from XM to Sirius. So you could pay for the best of XM. Of course that didn’t come with Baseball or Hockey games, just the NHL and MLB Channels which don’t broadcast games. A few weeks later they somehow managed to combine all the Sirius and XM music channels and broadcast them to both.
  3. Now Sirius is adding a Licensing fee. This is something that Sirius had paid itself previously. It seems like nothing more then a way to raise rates while getting around their promise to freeze rates. Pretty much if you want the same service that you got before the merger you now have to pay two more fees on top of the rate you paid.
  4. Extra charges for multiple subscriptions. Previously your 2nd sub only cost 6.99 and it now costs 8.99.

So where is the FCC? The same FCC that held up the merger for over a year because it was worried about a monoploy. Where are all the represenatives that complained about Sirius during this time? While the customers are getting gouged and getting rate increases in everything but name, they are silent. Its obvious that Sirius has broken its agreement not to raise rates. Just because of a technicality it should be allowed to dance all over the corpse of that agreement?

Apparently if you bribe the government to fight competition, government will fight for you. But when your the average citizen expecting to be protected from big companies, your fucked.

Bubba Screwed His Fans

By , March 7, 2009 11:46 am

So its another friday “live” Bubba show as a treat to those of us who pay for Sirius. What do we get? Another Hour or two of Bubba bitching about the fans. Then Bubba wonders why his merch sales are down and why he has half the fans he used to. If a live Howard was on Friday, I wouldn’t listen to Bubba at all. But because I’ve already heard 3 replays of every show for the week. Most weekdays I listen to Howard all day and then switch over for the great Scott Ferrall for 8-12.

Bubba’s main claim is that he gave Sirius 3 options and they choose the option that he knew would piss off the fans. First off, if you know an option is going to piss off your fans, why make it an option? And its not as though you wouldn’t be able to tell the fans why you aren’t on Sirius once your off of it. There is internet streaming on your morning radio broadcasts.

One thing that doesn’t come up though, is why Sirius would have taken the worst of three options, all things being equal.  Its obvious then that all things weren’t equal. More then likely Bubba was asking for an exoberant amount of money for the other two options.  Lets say for example, after making 500K for the last three years he now wanted Five Million to record a seperate show at 10-2 for Sirius to broadcast at 3-7. Your talking about trying to get a ten time raise in price for a company that continues to flirt with bankruptcy. Thats just what Bubba might have wanted, could you imagine what he might have wanted to do a live show at 3-7?

Bubba has said that him and his crew “aren’t make a penny more” But theres not a single person out there who wouldn’t consider it a raise if their job told them to work 20 hours instead of 40 but they get the same pay. They also got incredibly large paydays from regular radio. So for them to say they didn’t get any new money this year is a joke.

Also shame on Bubba for him using his fans to call and threaten Sirius to try to get him more money. Not a single fan would have called up had they known it was going to be a replay of a regular radio broadcast. I’m sure they would have been even less likely to call up if they knew an hour of every Bubba Friday broadcast was going to be a bitchfest about the fans. These are the same fans that carried his fatass and bought his shitty merchandise for two years to make sure that he stayed afloat. And don’t even get started on what Bubba is blowing money on that he so badly needed to have the Sirius gig. Its amazing how Ferrall can make enough money to live Comfortably in New Jersey, have two kids and not bitch about every little thing, yet Bubba making around the same amount is bitching about money every few seconds.

Speaking of fans, those few fans that are Bubba fans that are left are rather sad. They defend him like they’ve had too much of the Kool Aid left. Not only that, but most of the ones that still defend him get free shit from him. The top of that list would be a mod on every Bubba board called HeatherWiz. Remember the first rule of the internet, there are no females on the internet. The ones that are fangirls in largely male communities are the worst. They are usually ugly, but everyone will White Knight for them. For those who don’t know what White Knight means, its basically those that can’t get laid in real life but will stick up for any pretend bitch on the internet.  So this Heatherwiz gets tons of free shit from Bubba and then pretends she doesn’t so that she doesn’t sound like a hypocrit when she argues in support of Bubba. Heatherwiz also does the “State Of The Bubba” and during the run up to the last one refused to ask any of the tough questions that SFN had and only gave Bubba softballs. The funniest thing about that State of the Bubba is that Bubba tried babyfacing to the fans only to bash the same fans on the following friday for the usual hour. Also, you know its true that Heatherwiz gets a ton of free Bubba shit since when you say it it equals an automatic ban from the Bubba forums.

So don’t be a white knight, speak the truth about fake fans like Heatherwiz that are bought out by shitty fat DJs and will never let the truth be told. BTW, being a white knight has Never, Ever gotten someone laid. Also don’t forget that Bubba being greedy is why he threw all of his fans to the side of the road for the quick payday. He offered an option he knew the fans wouldn’t like, and the other two options he gave Sirius included payhikes for him that he just didn’t deserve.

Also, in an intresting side note. If you go to the Bubba The Love Sponge article at wikipedia you’ll notice someone added “Character voiced by Mike Waters” to Ned’s listing with everyone else. If you browse through the history you’ll see this being removed time and time again by someone whose IP traces back to the cox coporation. Cox just happens to be the coporation that owns Bubba’s flagship station on regular radio.

Bubba The Love Sponge – The End

By , December 6, 2008 4:04 am

I’ve always been a huge fan of Howard Stern. I grew up on him to say the least. There was nothing better to me then him going to Sirius Satellite Radio. I was so tired of all the commercials. I was tired of him having to stop discussions because of commercials or censorship.

So after a year of playing nothing but Howard, I decided to finally switch over to listen to Bubba. It took a few tries but I finally got into him. He grew on me, and for a while he was nearly on the same level of listening to Howard. But ultimately there was a few things that turned me off to Bubba. Actually, Bubba himself was one of the biggest turnoffs. Some of my favorite days were days that Bubba wasn’t in or left early and allowed Spiceboy, Brent and Manson to do their thing. Those three are really underrated and can have a thoughtful insightful discussion about anything and hold my intrest. Unfortunately when the conversation gets too complicated for Bubba, or when he gets ADD about it he bursts in and changes directions.

But lets get down to the point. Its almost 99% sure that Sirius will allow Bubba’s contract to expire. Its not actually a surprise, despite what some people say. From the coporate viewpoint here’s the reasons

  1. Bubba gang raped a girl in studio. Despite what he’s claimed, he had a girl with an outrageously huge dildo and a strap on insert it in another porn star with the threat of or else. This is despite the girl claiming that she couldn’t take it all and that it would hurt among 15 other reasons. If you see the video, it looks worse then the Puerto Rican Day parade in NYC. Given the state of radio, one can hardly bash coporate for not supporting Bubba following that act.
  2. Bubba claims to be the second most highest rated show on Satellite Radio behind Howard. As coporate claims, and anyone else can point out, anyone can pull huge ratings in that slot. Bubba’s only defense for that is that his ratings go up during the 3-7 period. Of course when he points this out, he fails to point out that Howards first replay usually ends anywhere from 4:30 to 6 and a lot of people get out of work at 5, and this rolls westward.
  3. Howards fans won’t cancel. They might be mad for a week or two, but someone new can pick up the slack. I came for Howard, not Bubba, and I’ll stay for Howard. I have 8 hours of work to kill, and I need Howard, Ferrall and hopefully a few hours of someone else to help kill off my shift. As much as I love the music on Sirius, It can’t stand for a few hours on its own. It seems like every channel is annoying. Theres never exactly what your looking for.
  4. Bubba won’t last on regular radio. Despite what he says, despite what he has done so far, he will make a mistake. One can’t forget when they were talking about the former Attorney General and Bubba blurted out “Whats that spic done now?” is one of the many moments of insanity which will get Bubba fired from regular radio in todays enviroment.

Theres also my feelings as a fan for Bubba. As I’ve said, my feelings as a fan have waned a lot more in the last year or so. I skipped the local Bubbapalooza and was more upset that I missed a free Artie Lange and Sal The Stockbroker. Here’s whats been the focal point of my feelings.

  1. The Whole Ned Thing. Listen, no one actually thinks Kurt VanHelm Jr (or whatever Fred’s Nazi charector is) is actually a real person. Ned is just a voice by Manson. In public he’s played by Manson’s father in law. At Bubbapalooza they turn down the lights cause its Manson dressed in the getup.  In the Tampa area they already know this, they got the public records and the on air staff all made a certain amount, but there was no fifth on air talent just Manson getting a lot more money then everyone else. Ned’s original last name was Schnittt which happens to be Bubba’s opponet’s last name (MJ) So given that Ned had a tendency to fuck chickens and be gay it explains a lot. There was also a live Bubba Raw in which Jughead accidently caught Manson doing Ned’s voice while Ned wasn’t moving his mouth at all. Theres been a multitude of times where Ned said something and Bubba yelled at Manson. So in the end the whole deal with Ned is that Bubba is a wrestling fan, and its his way of working a gimmick over his fans, but its just an insult to our intelligence.
  2. On the idea of Bubba being a wrestling fan, he calls his fans Marks. Just for the uninformed, a Mark is Carny for an idiot to make a buck off of. And with all the crap that Bubba hocks on his show, flat out calling his fans idiots just there for him to make money off of is the most annoying. His Bubbapalooza only came around because he saw how much money Levy made marketing a comedy show to the Stern fans and decided that he could do it himself.
  3. Bubba’s inability to think of something really creative is annoying. He is so proud of shit hits the fan, but all it actually is is a fan in which he throws shit into and it gets blown onto some unlucky people. Other people might think of shit hits the fan being where a crazy jerry springer type situation is shown on air, but thats overthinking in Bubba’s world. Also whenever Bubba is outsmarted by the crew, he reverts to screaming and threatening to make pay cuts or pull peoples health insurance.
  4. Also, Bubba’s inability to lose gets annoying. From his stunt with the fake IV to him having suped up go karts so that he won’t lose a race. Anytime he wins he jumps and dances and celebrates, yet if someone beats him in anything he either changes the rules or rants and raves and changes the subject.

In the end my feeling is this. Howard has said On Air that he wanted to bring Kidd Chris to Satellite Radio, and Kidd Chris wanted to do his thing on regular radio. Despite Howard’s defense of Bubba, there are more opitions out there now that Howard has proven how solid Satellite Radio is. Booker is another one of Howard’s friends who needs a job and could easily full in. I’ve had the joy of hearing both of them, and they put on great shows. Although I never heard Booker in Philly, he was #1 multiple times in Morning drive in Philly. Theres nowhere that Howard is loved more then Philly and with Booker and Kidd Chris he has two former Philly ratings getters who can easily step in. They’ll get the same ratings evantully, and evantully Bubba will get himself fired from regular radio and Bubba will be kicking himself.
