on 2 forms (through both paypal and cc): losing -  comments, all being recorded as anonymous, all donors opting out

 Pre-test Meeting:
2 hour test on Monday 12-2pm - Put blog post about testing to avoid preemtively starting the fundraiser.
Talk to Communications about testing incase of press

TEST TAKE 2 Friday 10/8/10

BarkingFish: not getting any banners in IE8, Firefox is running fine.

** Jimmy too popular for our own good**

** let's monitor twitter during tests**

I cleared my cache and went back to en.wikipedia.org and the banner came back.
I think it's that once you click on it, it doesn't come back till you return to the site

It would help if instead of the office trying to do the testing and hosting the tests, you had someone
on mic to host the tests and comments separately

Don't pick #s off donation contribution form, mine the #s out of database so we can be sure to only get the #s for the duration of the 2-hour test

Weren't you saying earlier that some of the numbers were gonna be invalid or something?
Never mind - i remembered that was before you switched to the a vs. b thing

2 step beat 1 step process but not reliable test  - want to include another one step variation

c vs. D = long letter better

payment server time- need until thurs.

Monday: Jimmy banner testing en.WP - different kinds of Jimmy banners

What we've learned:
Oct 11, 2010: Jimmy Banner test

Banners: http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:CentralNotice&method=listNoticeDetail&notice=Fundraiser-enWiki

Add to check list:
Issues:
General To Do:
Servers:
Twitter:
20 mentions of fundraising test on Twitter.
50-60 clickthroughts from Twitter at 1:20 mark.

Banners:
Banner 51 has pulled above banner 50 in Paypal contributions

with 305 contributions, we have beat 10,000 an hour! Go team! - running at 60% on only en.Wikipedia, to only annon users.

Do we get more contributions from the sidebar during banner testing?
What was our highest hour last year? -

Trends:
second hour has slowed down, we were at $20,000 at end of first hour, now we have only additional $4,000 ($24,000 total) 30 minutes into second hour - New appeal rush/banner fatigue

Final 2 hour total:
avg. 33.01
final: 855 contributions
$33,614.82
$35K day

10/12/10 Banner testing: Beat Jimmy
Banners: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fundraising_2010/Banner_testing/Stats/Banner_history

New Goal: $50,000/hour

French= running at 50% with 5 banners at 10%each
German=running at 50% with 5 banners at 10% each
English=running 41 banners with 60% total at 1.5% each

To Do:
French Banner Notes:
Issues:
CC Form through Payflow Pro Gateway shows euro correctly, but country is defaulting to USA. Maybe this is what
the user was referring to?  (this is in ref to a clickthrough from the de banners)

Final numbers:
269 Contributions
$8,913.61
Average: $21.83

Jimmy: 3.68% click-through, higher than yesterday

Donor Quote: 2nd highest income - Brain massage, which was also larger

The Jimmy banner was the largest, how much of an impact does this have on the results?

We want to run more donor quotes

Jimmy appeal in german: 5%

Germans:

DE testing 4 had more clicks per hour excluding Jimmy banner
(with your help Wikipedia is free and independent)

We have also learned:
Compared to 9/23 tests: 0.48 was rate for Be Curious,
which out performed us today, in terms of clicks, however produced little in donations.

Spreadsheet:
Shaded stats on fundraising doc refer to low click through rates

Highest Click through rate:
1. Jimmy: 3.68%
2. Brain Massage: .25%
3. "Admit it: without Wikipedia, you never could have finished that paper. 0.24%
4. "You depend on $sitename for information Now it depends on you." 0.21%
5. WP: Made possible button .15%
6. How much would you give to keep knowledge free: button: .14%

What We learned:
Next Test:
Thursday: only testing same Jimmy banner from today with multiple landing pages. in en

Thursday 10/14

We are testing:
Civi:
Civi info for Philippe is correct
Philippe received his thank you within 1.5 minutes

Queue stats:
>10 mins 24 donations

3:26 102 waiting so we are changing the pull rate to 50 every 5 minutes
3:30 pm 312 donations
3:55 pm 438 donations in line
At just about an hour we have $11,355
3 million banner impressions at just over an hour
4:40 pm 788 contibutions with a total of $21,907
4:40 pm 785donations still in queue
5:00 pm 754 still in queue

To do:
Issues:
Social Media:
Mono believes this is exactly why we cannot leave Jimbo up for 2 MONTHS
Why? Would he raise too much money? :) -Rock drum
Rock drum, read the above comment from the twitter feed by kestertaylor and you'd find out what mono was referring to :) << Thor

Post-test

ask-string - test new amounts?
-no comment - higher click donate button, but less completion rate

Tuesday Oct. 19, 2010

Running 1 banner, 6 LP

Backlog should decrease - before we were running 50 donations/5 minutes, now 150/1min.  Our goal is to make Tomasz have to increase this more.

IPN logs are looking strange -
** 3:30pm CC gateway looks good but possibly missing paypal transactions - Tfinc investigating

Social Media mentions:
3:33pm -  http://pastebin.com/RESpqyBx
updated click throughs: http://pastebin.com/TnJBf9WN

Quality.wikimedia.org also showing banners (3:55)

banner - Brian Sisolak from Trilogy noticed the following about the banner:

the clickable area is 772x140, the image is 1214x172

the a tag is around a div that contains the text
7:07
it should be around the image I would think
James fixed {{done}}

click rate up to 5.44% from about 3% previously

Thursday October 21, 2010

1. control with p.s.
2. funny looks
3. no ads, no comments, no agenda?
assending and decending
ask strings starting with 100, 50, 35, 20

60%for two-step
10%for one-step
After hour 1, 10%banner upped to 20%
